Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro are two Google image models from the same family. Nano Banana 2 is faster, returns up to 4 images per request and supports extreme formats up to 8:1. Nano Banana Pro gave better single images in my test. Watch the prices: at 1K Nano Banana 2 is marginally cheaper, but at 2K and 4K it costs more than Pro.
Key differences
- Images per request. Nano Banana 2 returns up to 4 (
num_images), Nano Banana Pro one. - Aspect ratios. Nano Banana 2 has 14, including 1:4, 4:1, 1:8 and 8:1. Pro has 10, from 21:9 to 9:16.
- Resolution. Nano Banana 2: 0.5K, 1K, 2K, 4K. Pro: 1K, 2K, 4K.

- Shared. Up to 14 reference images, prompts up to 32,000 characters, text-to-image and image-to-image.
When to pick Nano Banana 2
- Several thumbnail or ad variants in one run.
- 8:1 banners and 1:8 vertical strips.
- Fast 1K iterations when time matters.
- Short in-image text: in my typography test it made no letter errors, even in Polish.
When to pick Nano Banana Pro
- A single image that has to be the best, such as a cover.
- 2K and 4K output, where Pro is cheaper.
- Food and scenes the model must understand well. In my ranking Nano Banana 2 drew Polish pierogi like Asian gyoza; Pro got them right.
- Edits where every detail counts.
Cost in practice
At 1K Nano Banana 2 is only about 6% cheaper than Pro. At 2K it is about 24% more expensive, and at 4K about 1.7 times the price of Pro at 4K. The 0.5K tier has no separate, lower rate, so it costs the same as 1K. With num_images you pay per image: 4 images cost four times the rate. In Pro, 1K and 2K cost the same and 4K only slightly more, so 2K is a sensible default there. Rates: from $0.07 per image and from $0.0747 per image (both at 1K); every tier is on /pricing.
Results on the same five prompts (image ranking, Polish blog): Pro 9.0/10, Nano Banana 2 8.6/10. Nano Banana 2 still scored 10/10 on the sign with accented text, and in a separate typography test it passed a sign, a poster and a pangram without a letter error. The downside: it likes to add things nobody asked for, such as festival dates. More examples are in GPT Image 2.5 vs Nano Banana Pro vs FLUX.2.
