Seedance 2.0 vs 2.5 - Length, Resolution, Price per Second

Seedance 2.0 vs 2.5, plus Fast, Mini and Eco: clip length, resolution, reference limits and price per second in one table, with advice on what to use when.

Pick Seedance 2.5 when you need a single take longer than 15 seconds (up to 30 s), lots of reference media, or edits to an existing video. Pick Seedance 2.0 when you need 4K or a lower bill: base 2.0 costs from $0.157 per second, while 2.5 costs from $0.261 per second. Between them sit five more variants (Fast, Mini, Eco) that trade resolution for price. Here are all seven side by side, and how I choose.

Seedance 2.0 vs 2.5 in two paragraphs

Seedance 2.0 (ByteDance Seed, February 2026) generates 4-15 second clips with sound, from 480p all the way to 4K. It takes up to 9 reference images, 3 reference clips and 3 audio tracks, plus first and last frames.

Seedance 2.5 was shown on 23 June 2026 and released on 31 July 2026. The headline change is length: up to 30 seconds in one pass, so there are no seams between segments. It accepts far more references (30 images, 10 clips, 10 audio tracks), can edit or extend an existing video, supports seed, and on Jantaris runs at 480p, 720p or 1080p. No 4K.

If you only need the 2.5 API itself, with webhooks and error handling, that is covered in the Seedance 2.5 API guide. This post is about choosing between versions.

Prices are per second of video at each variant's lowest resolution, in USD excluding taxes. Every variant supports the same aspect ratios (16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 and adaptive, which follows the input image) and the same request fields, so switching is a one-word change in model.

What the table doesn't say:

  • Resolution drives the price. In every variant, 720p costs more than twice the 480p rate per second, and 1080p another 1.7-2.5 times the 720p rate. 4K on Seedance 2.0 is roughly five times the 720p rate.
  • At equal resolution, 2.5 costs more than 2.0. At 720p, a second of 2.5 is about 1.7 times a second of 2.0.
  • Eco variants are cheaper tiers of the same models. On Jantaris they take the same parameters with a narrower resolution list and a lower rate; Seedance 2.5 Eco at 720p is about a quarter cheaper than 2.5. I haven't run Eco and base side by side on the same prompt yet, so I won't promise identical output.
  • Mini has audio off by default. Set generate_audio: true if you want a soundtrack.

Full per-resolution rates are on each model page and the pricing page, or you can pull them with the script further down.

Seedance price per second, in practice

Cost is always the per-second rate at your resolution times the duration. The clips I price most often:

ClipVariant I start withHow to calculate
5 s prompt draft2.0 Mini at 480p5 × Mini 480p rate
15 s social clip at 720p2.0 Fast or 2.015 × 720p rate
10 s shot in 4K2.0 Eco or 2.010 × 4K rate
30 s one-take scene2.5 Eco at 720p30 × 720p rate
30 s scene at 1080p2.5 or 2.5 Eco30 × 1080p rate

One trap: reference videos add billable seconds. ByteDance bills the seconds of clips you pass in video_urls on top of the output. estimated_cost is calculated from the output length, while the final cost reflects actual usage, so with reference videos it will be higher. Reference images and audio add nothing.

Failed tasks cost nothing; the hold is released in full. For a cross-vendor view of per-second prices, see AI video cost per second.

What only Seedance 2.5 does

The reasons I pay the 2.5 premium:

  • 30 seconds in one take. No segments means no face drift between cuts. For a short story with a setup and a payoff, that matters.
  • Many references at once. 30 images, 10 clips and 10 audio tracks let you hold several characters, a product and a voice across the scene.
  • Editing an existing video. Swap a product, style, background or lighting while keeping the original motion and framing.
  • Extending a clip. A new shot that continues the characters, setting and sound of the previous one.
  • seed. Easier to reproduce a result while nudging the prompt.

What only Seedance 2.0 does

  • 4K, on 2.0 and 2.0 Eco. Seedance 2.5 on Jantaris tops out at 1080p.
  • Lower rates. At the same resolution 2.0 is clearly cheaper, and Mini costs a fraction of 2.5.
  • Variants for fast iteration. Fast and Mini for drafts, Mini Eco for budget 1080p.

For shots up to 15 seconds without a long narrative, 2.0 is enough. ByteDance's own image-to-video example:

My Seedance 2.0 Fast test

I have tested one variant myself. On 27 September 2026 I gave Seedance 2.0 Fast two prompts that several other video models also got: coffee poured into a cup, and a yellow-and-red Warsaw tram in the rain at dusk. 4 seconds, 720p, with audio, one take each.

  • Coffee: 8.0/10. The cup fills from empty, a clear camera push-in, a kitchen window behind. Minus: a rainbow flare and music I didn't ask for.
  • Tram: 7.0/10. The tram crosses the whole frame from a locked-off camera, the wet cobbles are spot on, but the car is cream-and-red and the umbrellas are only in the background.
  • Time: 106 to 164 seconds per clip, noticeably slower than Veo in the same test.
My Seedance 2.0 Fast test: coffee poured into a cup with steam
My test, 27 Sep 2026: coffee - good push-in, unrequested music
My Seedance 2.0 Fast test: tram passing sideways over wet cobblestones
My test, 27 Sep 2026: tram - tripod and cobbles right, tram colors wrong

Takeaway: Seedance likes to add music. If you don't want it, say what should be audible ("only rain and street noise, no music"), or turn audio off and add sound in the edit. ByteDance lists 11 speech languages for Seedance 2.5, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean.

Which Seedance should you use?

  • A single take longer than 15 seconds: Seedance 2.5, or 2.5 Eco if 720p/1080p is enough and you want to spend less.
  • A 4K shot: Seedance 2.0 or 2.0 Eco.
  • Character, product and voice from many references: Seedance 2.5.
  • Fixing or extending a finished clip: Seedance 2.5.
  • Prompt drafts and lots of variations: 2.0 Mini at 480p, then the final in your chosen model.
  • 720p social clips without a long story: 2.0 Fast or 2.0.
  • Cheap 1080p up to 15 seconds: 2.0 Mini Eco, once a test shows the quality works for you.

My routine: refine the prompt on 5 seconds in Mini or Fast, then send the finished description to 2.5 at full length. At the 2.5 rate, every redo at 30 seconds hurts.

Seedance in Studio

In Jantaris Studio you pick the variant from the model list, and the form adapts: allowed resolutions, duration range and reference slots. The screenshot shows Seedance 2.5 with a 4-30 s duration, three resolutions, slots for 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio files, and the cost before you click "Generate".

Comparing variants through the API

Pull the current rates and duration limits for every variant from the public catalog, no key needed:

python
import requests

MODELS = ["seedance-2.5", "seedance-2.5-eco", "seedance-2.0", "seedance-2.0-eco",
          "seedance-2.0-fast", "seedance-2.0-mini", "seedance-2.0-mini-eco"]

for model in MODELS:
    m = requests.get(f"https://jantaris.com/v1/models/{model}", timeout=30).json()
    rates = ", ".join(f"{v['resolution']}: ${float(v['amount']):.3f}/s"
                      for v in m["pricing"]["variants"])
    dur = m["input_schema"]["properties"]["duration"]
    print(f"{m['name']:<22} {dur['minimum']}-{dur['maximum']} s   {rates}")

Then send the same prompt to two versions to compare output and cost. The estimate comes back immediately:

python
import os, requests

API = "https://jantaris.com/v1"
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['JANTARIS_API_KEY']}"}
PROMPT = ("A street musician plays violin under a bridge at night, rain falls behind him, "
          "slow push-in, only rain and violin, no other music")

for model in ("seedance-2.0-fast", "seedance-2.5"):
    task = requests.post(f"{API}/generate", headers=H, json={
        "model": model,
        "input": {"prompt": PROMPT, "duration": 5, "resolution": "720p",
                  "aspect_ratio": "9:16", "generate_audio": True},
    }).json()
    print(model, task["id"], task["estimated_cost"])

Collect results from GET /v1/tasks/{id} or via webhooks, as described in the tasks docs. How Seedance compares with Kling and Veo is in the AI video API comparison.

FAQ

What is the difference between Seedance 2.0 and 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 generates up to 30 seconds in one pass, takes up to 30 images, 10 clips and 10 audio tracks as references, and can edit or extend video. Seedance 2.0 stops at 15 seconds but offers 4K and a lower per-second rate.

What is the Seedance 2.0 price per second?

On Jantaris, from $0.157 per second at 480p. Higher resolutions cost more, and the cheapest family member, 2.0 Mini, costs from $0.0366 per second.

Seedance 2.0 vs Seedance 2.0 Mini: what do I lose?

Mini is limited to 480p and 720p and has audio off by default; the request fields and reference limits are the same. It is a good drafting model before you render the final elsewhere.

Does Seedance 2.5 support 4K?

Not on Jantaris. Seedance 2.5 offers 480p, 720p and 1080p. For 4K use Seedance 2.0 or 2.0 Eco.

Seedance 2.0 vs 2.0 Fast: which is better?

Fast is cheaper per second and capped at 720p; base 2.0 goes up to 4K. For 720p drafts and social clips Fast is my pick, for 1080p and 4K it is base 2.0 or 2.0 Eco.

Am I charged for failed Seedance generations?

No. A task that ends as failed costs $0 and the hold returns to your balance.
