Pick HappyHorse 1.0 from Alibaba when you want to restyle an existing recording or need 4:5 and 5:4 for the feed. Pick Seedance 2.0 from ByteDance when the clip should come with sound, or you need 4K, 480p drafts, or references from clips and audio. At 720p the two cost almost the same; at 1080p HappyHorse is clearly cheaper.
Key differences
- Video editing. HappyHorse 1.0 has a mode that restyles a source video (3-60 s, first 15 s processed) using up to 5 style images. Seedance 2.0 has no such mode; a reference clip guides a new shot instead.
- Audio. Seedance 2.0 generates speech, effects and music by default. For HappyHorse the catalog describes audio only in edit mode, not for text or image generation.
- Resolution. HappyHorse: 720P and 1080P. Seedance 2.0: 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4K.
- References. HappyHorse: 1-9 images, or one photo as first frame. Seedance: up to 9 images, 3 clips and 3 audio tracks, plus first and last frame.
- Aspect ratios. HappyHorse has 4:5 and 5:4. Seedance has 21:9 and
adaptive. Both share 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 and 3:4. - Length. HappyHorse 3-15 s, Seedance 4-15 s.
When to pick HappyHorse 1.0
- Phone footage turned into animation or another visual style.
- 4:5 reels for the feed without reframing in the edit.
- 1080p clips when sound is added separately anyway.
- A character built from several reference images.
When to pick Seedance 2.0
- A clip that should have sound straight away.
- A 4K shot or a 480p draft.
- An ad guided by a reference motion clip or a voice recording.
- A transition between a first and last frame.
Cost in practice
At 720p Seedance 2.0 costs only about 5% more per second than HappyHorse 1.0. At 1080p the gap grows: Seedance is about 1.5 times pricier. HappyHorse's rate does not depend on mode, only on resolution and length. The exception is editing: you pay for the source seconds plus the output (up to 15 s), so a 10-second source bills as 20 seconds. In Seedance, reference clips in video_urls add their own seconds. Rates: from $0.322 per second (1080P) and from $0.157 per second (720p); the full list is on /pricing.
I have not tested HappyHorse. Seedance 2.0 produced the best camera push-in on the coffee prompt in my video ranking (Polish blog, 8.5/10). Alibaba's newer version is HappyHorse 1.1. Seedance variants are covered in Seedance 2.0 vs 2.5.
