Kling AI Without a Subscription - Pay per Clip vs Credits

Use Kling AI without a subscription: Kling 3.0, Turbo and Motion Control billed per second from a balance that never expires. When a credit plan pays off.

You can use Kling without a subscription: on Jantaris Kling 3.0 costs from $0.169 per second, and Kling 3.0 Turbo and Kling 3.0 Motion Control are billed per second too, from a prepaid balance that never expires. In the Kling AI app you pay for a plan, and plan credits are valid for one month after they are issued. A plan pays off if you burn through the whole allowance every month. Paying per clip fits irregular work, mixing several models, and building on the API. Below: how Kling credits actually work, what a clip really costs under each model, and how to choose.

The per-second rates at 720p, 1080p and 4K are in a separate post, Kling 3.0 API pricing. This one is about the billing model, not the rate card.

How Kling AI credits work

Kuaishou sells Kling in its app as monthly and annual plans with a credit allowance. How long credits last depends on where they come from. From the official credits policy on kling.ai, as of October 2, 2026:

Credit typeWhere it comes fromValid for
subscriptionissued monthly during a plan1 month from issue
7-day membershipon activating that membership7 days
loginfirst login of the dayuntil midnight
purchaseda one-off credit pack2 years from issue
promotionalcampaigns and eventsper the campaign rules

Three rules from the same policy have a real effect on cost:

  • Credits with the shortest validity are used first. A clip burns daily and subscription credits before the two-year purchased ones.
  • An annual plan does not front-load credits. Subscription credits are issued monthly during the plan, so you cannot save a year's worth for one big project.
  • Failed generations refund credits. If a clip fails, the credits go back to your account.

Kling's API is a separate developer platform with its own prepaid packages. Check package prices and validity at kling.ai/dev/pricing, and app plan prices at kling.ai, because promotions and the number of credits each mode uses change often.

What happens to unused credits

Subscription credits you do not spend within a month expire. That means the real cost of a clip on a plan depends on how much you actually generate, not on the rate card:

real cost per clip on a plan = plan price / clips you actually made that month

An example without prices: if a plan covers 40 clips and you made 20 this month, each clip cost you twice what the credit math suggested. In a month where you make all 40, the plan delivers exactly what it promises.

Per-second billing does not have that problem. A 5-second 720p clip costs 5 × from $0.169 per second whether it is your first clip of the month or your hundredth, and unspent money stays on the balance.

Kling AI plans and prices

When I checked kling.ai on September 18, 2026 (monthly billing view, with the promotional discount applied), the app plans looked like this:

  • Basic (free) - watermark, no commercial use, no 1080p or 4K.
  • Standard - $8.80 per month, 660 credits.
  • Pro - $32.56 per month, 3,000 credits.
  • Premier - $80.96 per month, 8,000 credits.
  • Ultra - $159.99 per month, 26,000 credits.

List prices without the promotion were higher, and the number of credits a given mode uses changes often, so check kling.ai before you buy. Jantaris has no free plan or signup credits and you pay from the first clip, but the balance never expires and there is no subscription.

Credit plan or pay per clip: who should pick which

SituationBetter fitWhy
you generate with Kling every day and nothing elseKling AI planyou use the allowance every month, and higher tiers lower the cost per credit
you want the newest Kling models and app toolsKling AI plannew releases reach Kuaishou's app first; Kling 4.0, announced on September 28, 2026, is not on Jantaris yet
you make a few clips a week, with gapspay per clipnothing expires in the slow months
you mix Kling with Veo, Seedance or MiniMaxpay per clipone balance for every model instead of several plans
you produce for clientspay per clipeach clip's cost goes straight onto the job
you build an app or an automationpay per clipthe API uses the same key and balance as Studio, with no expiry
you just want to try KlingKuaishou's free plan or a small top-upthe free plan has limits; top-ups start at $10

You can also combine them: the lowest app plan for everyday experiments, and big projects or 4K shots paid per second instead of upgrading the plan for one month.

Kling models you can pay for per clip

ModelBilled perWhen I use itPrice
Kling 3.0second of outputdialogue, scenes with people, 4K, audiofrom $0.169 per second
Kling 3.0 Turbosecond of outputwhen wait time mattersfrom $0.277 per second
Kling 3.0 Motion Controlsecond of the source clipmotion from my video onto a character from a photo$0.249 per second
Kling 2.6 Motion Controlsecond of the source clipcheaper choreography tests$0.138 per second

A naming trap: on Jantaris Turbo is not cheaper than Kling 3.0 at 720p. It is faster, and it has no audio or 4K. Details in Kling 3.0 vs Kling 3.0 Turbo.

What Kling costs without a subscription: sample months

The same rules applied to three different users. The live rate card fills in the amounts:

WhoMonthly outputCost on Jantaris
occasional creator6 clips × 5 s at 720p30 × from $0.169 per second
short-form creator20 clips × 10 s at 720p200 × from $0.169 per second
agency15 motion clips × 10 s in Motion Control 3.0150 × $0.249 per second

"From" is the 720p rate without audio. 1080p costs about a third more, 4K close to five times as much, and audio raises the rate roughly 1.4-1.5 times. In Motion Control, pro quality costs more than std. You always see the exact figure before you click. A wider per-second comparison across video models is in AI video cost per second.

Keeping spend under control without a plan

Without a subscription there is no allowance that stops you, so set up control differently:

  • Check the cost before you click. Studio shows it in the "Cost" line, the API in estimated_cost right after you submit.
  • Draft at 720p and 5 seconds. Render 1080p or 4K only for the shot you like.
  • Turn audio off if you add music in your editor anyway.
  • Top up in small amounts. The balance is a natural cap: when it runs out, the API returns 402 and nothing renders.
  • Don't pay for failures. A task with status failed costs nothing and the held amount is released in full.

Kling without a subscription over the API

Create a key after you sign up. Check the balance, then submit:

bash
# current balance
curl https://jantaris.com/v1/balance \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JANTARIS_API_KEY"

# 5 s clip at 720p, no audio
curl https://jantaris.com/v1/generate \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JANTARIS_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "kling-3.0",
    "input": {
      "prompt": "Handheld shot of a barista pouring latte art in a small cafe, morning light through the window",
      "duration": 5,
      "resolution": "720p",
      "aspect_ratio": "9:16",
      "generate_audio": false
    }
  }'

The 202 response includes estimated_cost; fetch the finished clip with GET /v1/tasks/{id} or a webhook. Holds and charges are explained in the billing docs, and Kling is compared with other video models in the AI video API comparison.

FAQ

Yes. On Jantaris, Kling 3.0, Kling 3.0 Turbo and Motion Control are billed per second from a prepaid balance. There is no plan and there are no credits; the minimum top-up is $10.

Do Kling AI credits expire?

Yes. Under Kling's credits policy, subscription credits are valid for one month from issue, login credits until midnight, and purchased credits for two years. Credits with the shortest validity are used first.

Does an annual Kling plan give all credits upfront?

No. Subscription credits are issued monthly during the plan, and each batch is valid for one month.

Is Kling AI free?

Kuaishou's app has a free Basic plan with a watermark and no commercial use, while on Jantaris you pay per second at the rates listed in Kling 3.0 API pricing.

Do failed Kling generations cost money?

Not on Jantaris: a task with status failed costs nothing. In the Kling AI app, credits for a failed generation are refunded as well.

Is there a Kling API without buying a package?

Yes. On Jantaris you call kling-3.0 through POST /v1/generate with the same key as every other model and pay per second from your balance, starting with a $10 top-up.
