In my own test Nano Banana Pro produced the best single images, and when editing it disturbed the rest of the frame less than the stronger GPT Image 2.5 tier did. GPT Image 2.5 is clearly cheaper, has one price regardless of quality and size, and renders in-image text just as reliably. For a single important visual I would pick Nano Banana Pro; for series and everyday graphics, GPT Image 2.5.
Key differences
- Price. GPT Image 2.5 has a flat rate per image:
quality(fromlowtomax), size and number of references do not change it. Nano Banana Pro charges the same for 1K and 2K and slightly more for 4K. - Resolution. Nano Banana Pro: 1K, 2K, 4K in 10 aspect ratios (21:9 to 9:16). GPT Image 2.5: 1024x1024, 1536x1024, 1024x1536 or
auto(custom sizes are not available in Jantaris yet). - References. Up to 14 in Nano Banana Pro, up to 16 in GPT Image 2.5.
- Editing. In my five-edits-in-one-prompt test (FLUX hub, Polish), Nano Banana Pro changed the untouched parts of the photo less (SSIM 0.942) than GPT Image 2.5 in its Sunburst tier (0.870). I did not measure the Flare tier, which is
gpt-image-2.5, in that test. - Prompt. Both take 32,000 characters and return one image per request.
When to pick Nano Banana Pro
- A cover, poster or key visual where the best single result matters.
- Editing a product photo where the rest of the frame must stay put.
- 4K output for print or further retouching.
- 21:9, 4:5 and 5:4 formats.
When to pick GPT Image 2.5
- A series of blog or social graphics at lower cost.
- Graphics in three fixed sizes (1024x1024, 1536x1024, 1024x1536) at one price.
- Projects with many references (up to 16).
- Working at
maxquality with no higher rate.
Cost in practice
Nano Banana Pro costs about 1.7 times as much per image as GPT Image 2.5 at 1K and 2K. There is no 4K comparison, because GPT Image 2.5 on Jantaris tops out at 1536x1024. 4K is only available in Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2, and from OpenAI in GPT Image 2. Because GPT Image 2.5's price does not rise with quality, max is better value here than with the vendor's token billing. Neither model charges extra for references. Rates: from $0.0747 per image and $0.0432 per image; all models on /pricing.
My test results (Polish blog, same five prompts): Nano Banana Pro 9.0/10 (image ranking), GPT Image 2.5 Flare 8.5 at high and 8.6 at max (GPT Image 2.5 test). Both rendered a Polish sign with four accented letters correctly. Timings on another provider: Nano Banana Pro about 19 s, Flare about 18 s at high and 38 s at max. A wider comparison with FLUX.2 is in GPT Image 2.5 vs Nano Banana Pro vs FLUX.2.
FAQ
Nano Banana Pro or GPT Image 2.5: which is better?
For single-image quality in my test, Nano Banana Pro (9.0 against 8.5-8.6). For price and one rate for every size and quality level, GPT Image 2.5.
Which handles text in images better?
Both rendered accented text correctly in all my attempts. With long copy, proofread every line anyway.
How much is a 4K image?
In Nano Banana Pro 4K costs a little more than 1K and 2K. GPT Image 2.5 on Jantaris does not do 4K: it has three sizes (1024x1024, 1536x1024, 1024x1536), all at one price, $0.0432 per image. For 4K from OpenAI, use GPT Image 2.
Can both edit photos?
Yes, pass your photos in image_urls. In my test Nano Banana Pro changed less of what it was told to keep than the Sunburst tier did; Flare was not part of that test.
