Seedance 2.0 bills per second and gives you room to work: 4-15 s, 480p to 4K, references from photos, clips and audio. Veo 3.1 (Quality) always returns an 8-second clip at one price, at 720p, 1080p or 4K. At 720p, 8 seconds cost almost the same in both, but at 1080p Veo is about 2.7 times cheaper and at 4K about 3.6 times. I make short shots and reference-driven work in Seedance, and high-resolution shots that fit in 8 seconds in Veo.
Key differences
- Length. Seedance 2.0 makes 4-15 s, and with
duration: -1it picks the length itself. On Jantaris, Veo 3.1 (Quality) always returns 8 s and bills it as one clip. - Resolution. Seedance 2.0: 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4K. Veo 3.1: 720p, 1080p and 4K, with 720p and 1080p at the same price.
- Audio. In Seedance speech, effects and music are on by default, and
generate_audio: falsegives a silent clip at the same price. The Veo form has no audio toggle and no surcharge. At the vendor, Veo 3.1 generates sound together with the picture, but listen to one clip before you run a batch. - Frames and references. Seedance takes a first and last frame, or up to 9 images, 3 clips and 3 audio tracks as references, including real people (with their consent). Veo takes 1-3 images as frames in
image_urls. At the vendor, Veo 3.1 can also extend a finished clip. - Aspect ratios and prompt. Seedance has 7 ratios including 1:1, 21:9 and
adaptive. Veo has 16:9 and 9:16 only. Prompt: 20,000 characters in Seedance, 4,000 in Veo. - Price for 5 and 10 s. A 5 s Seedance clip at 720p costs about two thirds of a Veo clip, and 10 s about 1.3 times one Veo clip. At 1080p even 5 s of Seedance comes out about 1.7 times the price of an 8-second Veo clip.
When to pick Seedance 2.0
- Short 4-6 s shots you do not want to pay for as 8 seconds.
- A character driven by photo, clip and voice references.
- Square 1:1 or 21:9.
- Cheap 480p drafts before you settle on the final resolution.
When to pick Veo 3.1
- A 1080p or 4K shot where 8 seconds is enough.
- A trailer or spot cut from equal 8-second pieces.
- A transition across several images given as frames.
- One predictable price per clip at 720p and 1080p.
Cost in practice
Seedance 2.0 is priced per second (from $0.157 per second at 720p), Veo per 8 s clip (from $2.53 per video at 720p and 1080p). Comparing 8 seconds: at 480p Seedance costs half a Veo clip, at 720p about 7% more, at 1080p about 2.7 times more, and at 4K about 3.6 times a 4K Veo clip. Seedance adds the seconds of reference clips in video_urls, and duration: -1 reserves funds as for 15 s and settles the delivered length. Price any length in the AI cost calculator; rates are on /pricing, with worked Veo examples in Veo 3.1 API pricing.
Veo 3.1 scored 8.0/10 in my September 28 test (coffee 8.0, Polish speech 8.0). From the Seedance 2.0 family I tested the Fast variant (7.5/10 on September 27); the full Seedance 2.0 was not in the same task. I tested through other providers' APIs. Results are in the best AI video generator in 2026, and Veo against the newer Seedance in Veo 3.1 vs Seedance 2.5.
FAQ
Seedance 2.0 or Veo 3.1: which is better for a 4K ad?
For 8-second shots, Veo 3.1: its 4K clip costs about 3.6 times less than 8 seconds of Seedance 2.0 in 4K. Seedance in 4K makes sense when the shot has to be shorter or longer than 8 s, or is built on references.
Can Veo 3.1 make a 5 or 10 second clip?
Not on Jantaris; the length is fixed at 8 s. Trim a shorter piece in your editor, and build 10 seconds from two clips or generate them in Seedance 2.0 in one pass.
How much do 10 seconds cost in Seedance 2.0?
Ten times the per-second rate at the chosen resolution (from $0.157 per second at 720p). You see the amount before you start, in Studio and in estimated_cost, and a failed generation costs $0.
