Prices exclude taxes and are charged from your prepaid USD balance. Kling 3.0: options such as audio or pro mode cost more - Studio and estimated_cost show the exact amount before you run. Failed generations cost nothing.

Pick Kling 3.0 when you need a flexible length (3-15 s), a square 1:1 frame or cheap short shots at 720p and 1080p. Pick Veo 3.1 when you work in fixed 8-second shots and want 4K at a reasonable price. At 8 seconds in 1080p with audio both cost almost the same, so the shape of the shot decides, not the price.

Key differences

  • Length. Kling 3.0 generates 3 to 15 seconds in one-second steps. On Jantaris, Veo 3.1 always returns an 8-second clip and bills it as one.
  • Billing. Kling 3.0 is priced per second (from $0.169 per second), Veo 3.1 (Quality) per clip (from $2.53 per video). A 4-5 s Kling shot costs a fraction of a Veo clip.
  • Audio. In Kling you switch it on yourself (generate_audio: true): dialogue with lip sync plus ambient sound, at a higher rate. Veo has no audio toggle and no audio surcharge.
  • Frames and ratios. Kling takes a first and last frame and supports 1:1. Veo takes up to 3 images as frames, in 16:9 or 9:16 only.
  • Prompt length. 2,500 characters in Kling, 4,000 in Veo.
  • Non-English speech. On my Polish blog I tested both with a hard Polish tongue twister. Veo 3.1 got it nearly right, while Kling 3.0 Pro misread 10 of 12 words; Polish is not on Kling's official speech list. English lines in Kling came out clean. Details in my video model ranking (in Polish).

When to pick Kling 3.0

  • Reels and B-roll of 3-6 s that you do not want to pay for as 8 seconds.
  • Single shots longer than 8 s, up to 15 s.
  • Square 1:1 for the feed, or a start-to-end frame transition.
  • English dialogue scenes where lip sync matters.

When to pick Veo 3.1

  • 4K shots: here Veo is clearly cheaper than Kling.
  • Long, detailed prompts that do not fit in 2,500 characters.
  • A trailer or ad cut from 8-second pieces.
  • Lines in less common languages, where Veo did better in my test.

Cost in practice

I compare 8 seconds because that is the fixed Veo length. At 1080p without audio, Kling comes out about 1.45 times cheaper than Veo; with audio on, the two are practically level (about a 3% difference). At 720p without audio Kling is almost half the price. 4K flips it: 8 seconds of Kling in 4K costs about 1.7 times more than a 4K Veo clip, and audio no longer changes Kling's 4K rate. Kling's audio surcharge at 720p and 1080p is roughly 43-50% of the per-second rate. Current rates: from $0.169 per second and from $2.53 per video; all models are on /pricing. Worked examples are in Kling 3.0 API pricing and Veo 3.1 API pricing.

FAQ

Kling 3.0 or Veo 3.1: which is better for ads?

For a spot built from 8-second 4K shots, Veo is the better deal because it is cheaper at that resolution. For short 1080p shots and square formats I would use Kling. Test one clip of your actual scene before a batch, since image quality depends on the subject.

How much do 8 seconds cost in Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1?

Veo is one flat rate per clip: from $2.53 per video. In Kling you multiply the per-second rate (from $0.169 per second) by 8, and the rate is higher with audio. The exact amount is shown before you submit, in Studio or in estimated_cost.

Can Veo 3.1 make a clip shorter than 8 seconds?

Not on Jantaris; the length is fixed. Trim it in your editor, or generate the short shot in Kling from 3 seconds.

Which one supports 1:1?

Only Kling 3.0. Veo 3.1 works in 16:9 and 9:16.
