Best AI Video Generator 2026 - Ranking From My Own Tests

Best AI video generator 2026, ranked from my September tests: Veo 3.1, Grok Imagine, MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0, Seedance, Kling. Scores, price per second, audio.

There is no single best AI video generator, only the best one for a given job. In my September tests the top score went to Grok Imagine Video 1.5 (8.5/10), the Veo 3.1 family gave the best-looking footage, and the most reliable non-English speech came from Grok 1.5 and MiniMax H3. Among the models I tested, the cheapest test clip is Wan 3.0 (from $0.0777 per second), and the most sensible 4K option is Veo 3.1 Fast (from $0.354 per video at 720p and 1080p).

Quick answer: which AI video generator for which job

  • Cheapest test clip: Wan 3.0 at 480P, from 2 seconds - the cheapest of the models I tested. Seedance 2.0 Mini, PixVerse V6 and Grok Imagine 1.0 Video have lower per-second rates, and Veo 3.1 Lite gives a flat-price 8 s clip (from $0.177 per video), but I have not tested those.
  • Best image quality: Veo 3.1 (Quality) (Quality). The Fast version produced the best coffee shot in my 27 September test (8.5/10).
  • Best with audio: Grok Imagine Video 1.5, winner of the 28 September ranking. On Jantaris it always starts from a still image.
  • Best 4K: Veo 3.1 Fast. At the time of writing it is the cheapest 8-second 4K clip in the catalog, and it scored 8.0/10 in my test.
  • Non-English speech: Grok Imagine Video 1.5 (zero errors on a hard Polish sentence) or MiniMax H3 (one error, works from text alone, stereo audio always included).
  • Long scenes up to 30 s with references: Seedance 2.5.
  • English dialogue, 1:1 format, start and end frames: Kling 3.0.

AI video generator ranking 2026

The scores come from two tests I published on my Polish blog promptowy.com: the AI video generator ranking of 27 September (coffee and tram) and the best AI for making films ranking of 28 September (coffee and Polish speech). The prompts differ, so compare scores across the two dates with care.

\* I tested H3 Max with another provider that described it differently from the Jantaris catalog (here: 480P and 768P, and the description lists no audio track). The score applies to the model in that configuration.

"From" means the lowest resolution; higher tiers cost more. Veo 3.1 and Gemini Omni bill per clip, the rest per second. Full rates for every tier are on the pricing page.

Grok Imagine Video 1.5 - the winner with audio

Grok Imagine Video 1.5 from xAI won the 28 September ranking with an average of 8.5: coffee 8.0, Polish speech 9.0. Both speech recognition models transcribed my tongue twister with zero errors, and the coffee clip had a glass pot, steam and sunbeams.

How it works on Jantaris:

  • Always from a photo. The model needs exactly one image in image_url. It will not generate from text alone; Grok Imagine 1.0 Video does that.
  • 6-15 seconds, 480p or 720p, 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1.
  • Native, synced audio with dialogue included. Prompts up to 10,000 characters.

A good fit for talking portraits and animated cover art. I tested it through another provider's API, so run one clip on your own photo before a batch.

Veo 3.1 - best image and 4K

The Veo 3.1 family from Google has three tiers on Jantaris: Veo 3.1 (Quality) (Quality), Veo 3.1 Fast and Veo 3.1 Lite. Each returns a fixed 8-second clip in 16:9 or 9:16, at 720p, 1080p or 4K, with prompts up to 4,000 characters. Quality and Fast take up to 3 images as frames; Lite is text only.

In the 27 September test Veo 3.1 Fast scored 8.0: the best coffee in the lineup (8.5 - pour, steam and rising level all correct) and 7.5 for the tram, which moved too fast. In the 28 September test full Veo 3.1 scored 8.0 for coffee and 8.0 for speech. One of my two speech recognition models misheard the first word, the other heard everything.

My Veo 3.1 Fast test: coffee poured into a white cup with steam and a sunbeam
My test, 27 Sep 2026: Veo 3.1 Fast - best coffee in the lineup, 8.5/10
My Veo 3.1 Fast test: a yellow and red tram on wet cobblestones at dusk, people with umbrellas
My test, 27 Sep 2026: tram - colors and reflections right, motion too fast, 7.5/10

Why Fast rather than Quality for 4K: at the time of writing an 8-second 4K clip in Veo 3.1 Fast costs less than 8 seconds of 4K in Wan 3.0, Kling 3.0 or Veo 3.1 Quality. I keep Quality for the opening shot of an ad, where every detail counts. One note on audio: the Veo form on Jantaris has no audio switch, so I do not carry my speech result over one to one.

Vendor sample: Google (deepmind.google). Veo 3.1 in 4K

MiniMax H3 and H3 Max - speech from text alone

MiniMax H3 generates 4-15 seconds at 768P or 2K, and every clip has a native stereo track that you describe in the prompt. It takes start and end frames plus references: up to 9 images, 3 clips and 3 audio tracks. In text-only mode you must pick an explicit aspect ratio.

In the 28 September ranking H3 scored 7.25. The coffee was weaker (6.5), but the Polish sentence came out with one error at the start and the rest clean. That is why I use it for non-English lines when I have no start image.

MiniMax H3 Max is the simpler variant on Jantaris: 5-15 seconds at 480P or 768P, from text or frames, no references and no 2K. In my test it scored 8.25 with zero speech errors, but in a configuration described differently from the Jantaris catalog. Make one test clip before you plan a series.

Comparisons: MiniMax H3 vs H3 Max and MiniMax H3 vs Kling 3.0.

Wan 3.0 - cheap start, 30 seconds and 4K

Wan 3.0 from Alibaba makes 2-30 seconds in one pass, from 480P to 4K, with audio on by default (turn it off with generate_audio: false). It accepts up to 10 images, 5 clips and 5 audio files as references, and prompts up to 20,000 characters.

It scored 7.75 in both of my tests. On 27 September it had the best reflections on the cobblestones in the tram scene, but it added music I did not ask for. In the Polish sentence it got 2 of 12 words wrong. It was also the slowest: almost 3 minutes per clip.

The low 480P rate and the 2-second minimum make it a cheap way to check whether a prompt works at all. Then I run the same prompt in the target model and resolution.

Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 Fast - long scenes, weak non-English speech

Seedance 2.5 from ByteDance generates 4-30 seconds at 480p, 720p or 1080p, with speech, effects and music (mono). It takes 30 images, 10 clips and 10 audio tracks as references, edits and extends existing video, and supports seed.

In the 28 September test the image was very good (coffee 8.0, a thick, believable pour), but Polish speech got 5.0: 7 of 12 words misheard by the larger speech model. Hence the 6.5 average, tied for last. My takeaway: Seedance for long scenes, music videos and reference-heavy work, with non-English voice recorded separately. English dialogue was not part of my test.

Seedance 2.0 Fast is the cheaper, older option: 4-15 seconds at 480p or 720p. On 27 September it scored 7.5 - a nice push-in on the coffee, but a cream tram instead of a yellow one. Not to be confused with Seedream, ByteDance's image model, which I use for start frames: see Seedance vs Seedream.

My Seedance 2.0 Fast test: coffee poured into a white cup on a wooden table
My test, 27 Sep 2026: Seedance 2.0 Fast - good push-in, but it added music, 8.0/10
My Kling 3.0 test: a tram on a wet street in daylight
My test, 27 Sep 2026: Kling 3.0 - realistic tram, but cream instead of yellow and no dusk, 6.5/10
Vendor sample: ByteDance (byteplus.com). A scene up to 30 s in one pass

Kling 3.0 - English dialogue and square 1:1

Kling 3.0 from Kuaishou makes 3-15 seconds in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, at 720p, 1080p or 4K. You switch on audio with dialogue and lip sync yourself (generate_audio: true) and pass start and end frames in image_url and end_image_url.

Kling came out weakest of the big models in my tests. On 27 September the Standard variant scored 6.75: sharp image, but loose on colors and time of day. On 28 September Kling 3.0 Turbo Pro got 4 of 12 Polish words wrong according to the larger speech model and 7 according to the smaller one. On Jantaris Kling 3.0 Turbo is silent anyway.

A woman at a kitchen table speaks to the camera, frame from my Kling 3.0 Turbo test
My test, 28 Sep 2026: Kling 3.0 Turbo - lip movement fine, Polish pronunciation not

I pick it for 1:1, transitions between two frames and short English scenes. Comparisons: Kling 3.0 vs Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 vs Kling 3.0.

Gemini Omni 1.1 and FLUX 3 Video - the specialists

Both scored 8.0 on 28 September and both handled Polish speech well.

  • Gemini Omni 1.1 - Google, 4, 6, 8 or 10 seconds from 360p to 4K, from text, 1 or 3 images, or a reference clip up to 30 s. Zero speech errors in my test, coffee 7.0 (the level rises, the camera pushes in). The Jantaris model description does not mention audio, so check speech on one clip.
  • FLUX 3 Video - Black Forest Labs, 5-20 seconds at 720p or 1080p, audio written straight into the MP4, up to 10 keyframes and clip continuation with audio. One error in the Polish sentence by one of the speech models, coffee 7.5.

Comparison: Gemini Omni 1.1 vs Veo 3.1.

How I tested

I ran both tests myself through the APIs of two other providers, not Jantaris. Generation times and costs from those tests do not carry over to Jantaris.

Test of 26-27 September (full write-up, in Polish):

  • two identical English prompts: coffee poured into a white cup, and a Warsaw tram in the rain at dusk,
  • 4-second clips (Wan 3.0: 5 s), 16:9, one take per model, no rerolls,
  • 5 frames pulled from each clip, scored 0-10 for prompt adherence, physics, artifacts and sound,
  • six models, including Veo 3.1 Fast, Wan 3.0, Seedance 2.0 Fast and Kling 3.0 Standard.

Test of 28 September (full write-up, in Polish):

  • the coffee prompt, plus a woman at a table saying a Polish tongue twister with a price: "W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie, a ja płacę trzydzieści dwa złote",
  • 5 seconds, 16:9, 720p, audio on, fixed seed where accepted, one take,
  • exceptions: MiniMax H3 and H3 Max at 768p, Kling 3.0 Turbo Pro at 1080p, Veo 3.1 with no 5 s option (coffee 4 s, sentence 6 s),
  • speech checked with faster-whisper in two sizes (large-v3 and medium), counting wrong words out of 12,
  • the final score is the average of coffee and speech.

Two clips per model is a signal, not a verdict. The scores are mine and subjective: I mostly make 9:16 shorts and short product shots.

What a clip costs in each model

Prices fill in automatically from the price list, in USD. Examples at the lowest resolution:

5 s draft in Wan 3.0, 480P5 × from $0.0777 per second
8 s talking portrait in Grok Imagine Video 1.5, 480p8 × from $0.088 per second
6 s spoken line in MiniMax H3, 768P, three takes3 × 6 × from $0.161 per second = 18 × from $0.161 per second
15 s short in Seedance 2.5, 480p15 × from $0.261 per second

24 s trailer from three Veo 3.1 Fast clips3 × from $0.354 per video
Opening shot in Veo 3.1 Quality1 × from $2.53 per video

Audio in Kling and higher resolutions cost more. Work out any combination in the AI cost calculator; in Studio and in the API estimated_cost field you see the price before the job starts. Failed generations cost $0. The minimum top-up is $10, the balance does not expire and there is no subscription.

More math for shorts: AI video cost per second. API parameters for every model: AI video API comparison.

Every model in this ranking runs on one key through the AI video API. If you are replacing a specific app, I compared the options separately: Sora 2 alternative, Runway alternative, Pika alternative and Higgsfield alternative.

How I choose in practice

  1. I check the prompt on a short Wan 3.0 clip at 480P.
  2. If a character speaks a language other than English, I go to MiniMax H3 (from text) or Grok Imagine Video 1.5 (from a photo). Full speech results are in AI video with non-English speech.
  3. Shots without speech that go into the final edit get rendered in Veo 3.1 Fast or Quality, longer scenes in Seedance 2.5.
  4. It all runs from one balance in Jantaris Studio, so switching models is one click, or one model field in the API.

Repeat colors and time of day in the prompt, and for moving vehicles add "static camera on a tripod". More phrasing like that: AI video prompts and camera moves, and for slow, tense genre shots, AI Halloween horror video prompts.

FAQ

What is the best AI video generator in 2026?

In my tests Grok Imagine Video 1.5 had the highest average (8.5/10), followed by MiniMax H3 Max (8.25) and a group at 8.0: Veo 3.1, Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 and FLUX 3 Video. For footage without speech I pick Veo 3.1, for non-English speech Grok 1.5 or MiniMax H3.

Which AI video generator handles non-English speech?

In my Polish test Grok Imagine Video 1.5, MiniMax H3 Max and Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 had zero errors. MiniMax H3 and FLUX 3 Video had one. Seedance and Kling got most words wrong. Test your own language on one clip first.

What is the cheapest AI video generator?

Of the models I tested, Wan 3.0 at 480P has the lowest per-second rate (from $0.0777 per second). The catalog also has cheaper models I have not tested: Seedance 2.0 Mini (from $0.0366 per second), PixVerse V6 (from $0.0405 per second) and Grok Imagine 1.0 Video (from $0.0299 per second), plus Veo 3.1 Lite with a flat 8 s clip (from $0.177 per video).

Which models generate 4K video?

On Jantaris: Veo 3.1 (all three tiers), Kling 3.0, Wan 3.0 and Gemini Omni 1.1. At the time of writing Veo 3.1 Fast gives the cheapest 8-second 4K clip.

Do these scores apply to Jantaris?

Not directly. I tested the models through other providers' APIs, and some variants (for example MiniMax H3 Max and Kling 3.0 Turbo) are configured differently on Jantaris. Treat the scores as a signal about the model and run one test clip before a series.

Is there a free AI video generator?

Jantaris has no free plan or starter credits. The minimum top-up is $10, the balance never expires and failed generations cost $0. Free options with limits are covered in free AI video generator.
